4) Is a substrate such as stone wool able to comply with these requirements? Stone wool supplied to customers is completely free of disease. Consequently, the substrate will in any case be free of disease at the beginning of the cultivation of the crop. Moreover, stone wool slabs have a consistent structure, so the root climate will be the same throughout the greenhouse.
In addition, the air-water balance is so precise that the roots can develop throughout the entire slab. However, one of the most important differences between stone wool and greenhouse soil is stone wool’s smaller and permeable volume, which provides for much more rapid steering of the nutrients and water.
