Grodan Plugs |
| Uniformity for optimum germination |
| The renewed plugs result in a maximum number of useable and homogeneous seedlings. Both form and strength have been greatly improved for good machine and manual processing. Whether sowing or transplanting, the new plug is the solution to achieving a homogeneous sowing result. |
| Improved homogeneity |
Improving the homogeneity of the plugs produces uniform batches of plants because of the even distribution of water, nutrients and pH value. This consequently achieves better germination results. Technical modifications in the production process have increased the homogeneity of the identically shaped plugs.

Optimum robustness and flexibility
The fibre structure of the new Grodan plugs is not only robust, it is flexible too. On the one hand the robustness provides protection and prevents damage. On the other hand the plugs are not too hard for successful germination without resistance.
Ideal air/water balance
The calculated balance between small and large pores in the stonewool creates an optimum ratio of air to water. Moreover, the fibre structure provides a balanced distribution of feed water throughout the entire plug. The large pores take care of the intake and release of air.

Consistent shape of the seed hole
On the basis of various sowing systems, Grodan has developed optimal seed holes. The standard one is the seed hole with a conical shape . The seed always rolls to the bottom and has sufficient space for root development. In addition, there is a variant with a deeper groove in the centre causing the seeds to nestle deeper and firmer in the plug.
Identically shaped plugs
| The automatic sorting and transplanting of plants requires plugs that are fixed and precise in shape. Grodan plugs meet these requirements owing to the refined drilling technique. It means that each plant has the same volume and the same amount of water available. Loose fibres are largely removed during production. |

Root development through the entire plug
| The predominantly vertical fibre structure provides equal resistance to each root facilitating the spread of the roots. Combined with homogeneity, identical shape and robustness, Grodan plugs form the basis for optimum germination and uniform sowing results. |
